JC McCarthy (Jennifer Winkley) is a self-taught artist whose hometown is El Paso, Texas. In 1990 she moved into a small brick building, formerly a brothel, on the edge of the U.S.-Mexican border where her work was informed by the light and shadow of the Chihuahuan Desert, the dust of the outlaw, border town of Sunland Park, NM, and the desert stones marked by lines and colors that resemble the petrified organs of ancient creatures. Currently, she lives and works in Santa Fe, NM.
from Lord Byron's "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage "
But in man's dwelling he became a thing
Restless and worn, and stern and wearisome
Drooped as the wild-born falcon
With clipped wing
To whom the boundless air alone were home.
Then came his fit again, which to o'ercome,
As eagerly the barred up bird will beat
His breast and beak against his wiry dome
Til the blood tinge his plumage,
So the heat of his impeded soul would
Through his bosom eat.
